Welcome To Mayfield

We hope you find the information here that you are looking for but if there is anything else you might like to know, please call the church office for further information.

You will see from our links that Mayfield United Church is a vibrant congregation of the United Church of Canada that is a good combination of rural/suburban people.  The church has an excellent senior choir as well as Youth choir.  In fact, the Youth program is one of the strengths of the church.  In addition, there are other program areas offered in adult education/discussion groups, Sunday school and child care for the youngest people in the church with paid staff.  The UCW offers a variety of programs for women throughout the year.

Mayfield is blessed with an old and very beautiful sanctuary which is a lovely place for a wedding.  If you are interested in having a wedding in a traditional setting, please contact the church office.

Or, if you are looking for a new church home, you will find a congregation of welcoming and open people here.  We include a complete theological spectrum from those who are more traditional/conservative to very liberal and points in between.  People here engage in dynamic conversation in the study groups.  We are not a boring or bored congregation.  While we are constantly open to change, our feet are still firmly planted in the good soil of this church’s solid tradition.

With the new programs and newly revised committee structure here, there is a place for everyone’s talents and interests.  Please see the link to our weekly newsletter for more updated information.

This is a congregation that deeply appreciates worship and engages in different worship experiences.

The sacramental life at Mayfield is an important opportunity for the community to gather around the celebrations of church life: both the Celebration of the Lord's Supper and Baptism.  Mayfield is a very open and welcoming congregation in that anyone and everyone is invited to share at the Table.  We celebrate Communion throughout the year, especially at the beginning of each new liturgical season.  Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost are the main seasons of celebration but we also include World Wide Communion.

The policy of Mayfield regarding Baptism is also an open one.  All children and adults are welcome into this opportunity to become a member of the family of God as expressed through this congregation.  When parents wish to have a child baptized, or when an adult feels the call to Baptism, the minister will spend some time in discussion on the meaning of this rite which is an entry into the life of the church.  There is an expectation that those who come to present themselves as candidates for Baptism will become fully integrated into the life of the church and will worship regularly with the community.

Marriage is another outreach into the community.  Mayfield does have a marriage policy which is open and inclusive of everyone.  If you are seeking a beautiful, old fashioned sanctuary for your wedding, Mayfield may have what you are looking for.  The marriage policy in detail is available to you upon request from the church office.

The sanctuary and hall are also available for funerals.  Generally the funerals which are held at the church are for members whose families wish their loved one to be buried from the church.  But the minister is available to do funerals in neighbouring funeral homes if requested.

Please join us as we journey together as pilgrims on the Way and as followers of Jesus Christ.

Blessings
Rev. Carol Gierak
