1 To be a beacon guiding our greater community in Christian faith

Newsletter January 20, 2012

In loving memory of our friend, David Armstrong, and praying for David’s family, friends, and church community who loved him.   May we find comfort from one another and from the promises of God. The Scripture printed below are the words of hope that we gathered around as a community today, as we celebrated David’s life.

May God’s Words continue to give us strength and hope in our shared life.

Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.   2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; 3 he restores my soul.   He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.   4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff— they comfort me.   5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.   6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long.

Romans 8:35-39
35Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36As it is written, ’For your sake we are being killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep to be slaughtered.’ 37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  38For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Matthew 13:1-9
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the lake.  2Such great crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat there, while the whole crowd stood on the beach.  3And he told them many things in parables, saying: ’Listen! A sower went out to sow.  4And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up.  5Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil.  6But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and since they had no root, they withered away.  7Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. 8Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9Let anyone with ears listen!’

Blessings,
Rev. Lloyd
